Lorry driver killed in road crash
Two crashed lorries
Traffic was diverted after the crash
One man has been killed in a road traffic accident involving two lorries on the main A1 Belfast to Newry road in County Down.

The other driver hurt in the crash, which took place near Sheepbridge outside Newry at about 1000 BST, suffered multiple fractures.

The driver's condition in hospital has been described as ill but stable.

The road has reopened but police warned drivers to take extra care as spilled diesel may make conditions hazardous.

Both fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene of Friday's accident.

Sergeant Stephen Graham appealed for anyone who witnessed the accident to contact police.

The latest deaths bring the number of fatalities on the province's roads this year to a total of 31.
