Man charged over fatal stabbing

A west Belfast man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a man.

It relates to the killing of Ciaran Irvine, 22, who was fatally stabbed at Juniper Park in the Twinbrook area on Monday.

The court heard Brendan John Joseph Rice, also 22, from St Agnes Drive, went to police hours after the incident and had repeatedly expressed remorse.

A detective sergeant said when charged, the defendant said: "I'm just awfully sorry." He was remanded in custody.

Mr Rice will appear again via video link on 26 April following his appearance at Lisburn Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Mr Irvine was stabbed during an alleged row in the early hours of Monday morning.

He was taken to hospital, where he died a short time later.
