A controlled explosion was carried out
Army bomb experts have made safe a second bomb in the Malone Road area of south Belfast.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the first "viable device" found in the Newforge Lane area during the alert, which started on Sunday night.

The second device, also described as being "viable", was found during follow-up searches.

Details about the size or content of the bombs have not been made public by police yet.

The police were called out after a telephone bomb warning. Several homes in the area were evacuated and roads closed, but all have now re-opened.

Residents were taken to the nearby Newforge Country Club, but were all later allowed to return home.

The alert began at about 2130 BST on Sunday.

A helicopter with a spotlight was used during a search of the area.
