Homes still without water in area
Hundreds of homes remain without water
Hundreds of homes remain without water
Fewer than 100 homes in south Down remain without water after a main burst on Saturday morning, the water service has said.

Up to 1,500 homes in parts of Newry and surrounding villages were without supply for several hours on Saturday.

The water service said although the main has been fixed, airlocks in the system remain.

As a result several hundred homes in the Mayobridge and Ballyholland areas were still without a supply on Sunday.

Alan Revey from the service said they were hoping to get a supply to all customers by Sunday afternoon.

He said emergency supplies had been delivered to customers, including a nursing home.

"It's been a very difficult one - it's the complex nature and hilly nature of the area," Mr Revey said.

"We've had people on the ground all morning, we've identified airlocks in three areas and are working to clear these."

Customers still having problems should contact the service on 08457 440088.
