Security alert 'elaborate hoax'

A security alert in County Armagh has ended and been declared an "elaborate hoax".

Army bomb disposal experts had been called to examine a suspicious object on Tandragee's Main Street shortly before 0500 BST on Friday.

It was discovered following a telephoned warning.

A controlled explosion was carried out on the object and a number of families were moved from their homes during the alert.

SDLP assembly member Dominic Bradley said he was "disgusted by this sinister attack".

"Those responsible knew the havoc they would cause for local residents," he added.

"There can be no reasoning or sense behind anyone or any organisation being involved in such destructive behaviour."
