Five dead in border car accident

Irish police have begun an investigation into the crash
Five people have been killed in an accident just across the Northern Ireland border in County Donegal.

The three men and two women killed were in one car which was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle at Cross Quigley's Point near Muff.

All five were aged in their early 20s and from County Donegal.

They were named as Darren Quinn, 21, Gavin Duffy, 21, Charlene O'Connor, 21, Rachelle Peoples, 22, from Buncrana, and David Steele, 23, from Muff.

The male driver of the other car is being treated at Altnagelvin Hospital in Londonderry where he is described as being "seriously ill".

The accident happened at about 0330 BST on Saturday.

Gardai from Buncrana are investigating the collision and have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
