Retailers should thoroughly check their premises before closing for the Christmas break, the police have warned.
It follows a wave of fire bombings which have destroyed several businesses across Northern Ireland.
The police have warned there may be further attacks with incendiary devices.
However, police are concerned firebombs may remain undetected in stores shut up over Christmas.
Assistant Chief Constable Duncan McCausland appealed to all retailers to ensure their premises were fully checked before shopping ended on Christmas Eve.
"We have seen a number of incidents over the past few days where stores have been fully or partially destroyed by incendiary devices," he said.
"These have tended to ignite overnight after the shops have been closed.
"I am urging all retailers to thoroughly check their premises before closing on Christmas Eve to ensure the risk of attack is lessened as far as possible over the festive weekend."
The leading officer also advised business owners and managers to review security measures.
"An extra few minutes could make a difference," he said.
"I would also repeat our appeal to the public to remain vigilant as they finish their Christmas shopping."
Dissident republicans have been linked to the latest wave of fire bombings.
Devices have been discovered in Lisburn, Newry, Antrim, Londonderry, Newtownabbey and Ballymena.
