Two die in house shooting
Police are not looking for anyone else over the shootings

A shooting in east Belfast in which two people died is being treated as a domestic incident by police.

The bodies of Brian Smith, 47, and his partner Sandra Crilly, 40, were found inside the house in Hills Avenue early on Sunday morning.

Police believe that Mr Smith, a former prison officer at Magilligan jail, shot Mrs Crilly before turning the gun on himself.

Mrs Crilly's 15-year-old daughter from a previous relationship was shot twice and is being treated in hosptal.

Legally-held gun

She is said to be in a comfortable condition following emergency surgery.

The woman's 21-year-old son was also in the house, but he was not injured.

Mr Smith was dismissed from his post as a prison officer in June after a disciplinary hearing.

It is understood prison gates had been left open.

Police said a legally held gun was found at the scene.

Their investigation is continuing but police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shootings.
