Petrol bombs thrown at van
Police were attacked with petrol bombs during disturbances
Two petrol bombs were thrown at the van
A van driver is recovering following a petrol bomb attack in Londonderry.

The driver was delivering newspapers to a shop in Church Brae on Saturday at about 0400 BST when he heard a bang at the rear of his vehicle.

He saw a blaze on the ground and a man attempting to light a second petrol bomb.

The man drove off but the petrol bomber ran alongside him, throwing the second device at the van.

This caused scorch damage to the vehicle and to the wall of the shop.

SDLP Councillor Martin Reilly said it was a "sinister" attack.

"This incident could have caused major damage to property or, even worse, injury to the driver. Those responsible must be strongly condemned by the whole community," Mr Reilly said.

Police in Londonderry have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to contact them.
