Two County Down men have appeared in court charged with possession of an imitation firearm.
John Griffin, 33, of Parkhead Crescent, Newry and Gavin Patrick Malone, 30, of Barcroft Park, Newry, were accused of possessing an imitation gun with intent to commit a robbery.
The charges are believed to relate to a police operation in Newry city centre on Monday.
An investigating officer told Newry Magistrate's Court on Wednesday that he believed he could connect Mr Griffin and Mr Malone with the charges.
The court heard how the two men both replied: "No" when the charge was put to them.
The men were remanded in custody and ordered them to appear before the court on 4 August via video-link.
Three other men who were arrested following the police operation were released without charge.
