Police suspect republican paramilitaries were behind a robbery in County Tyrone.

A husband and wife were held captive by two masked men in their home at Glenview Park in Strabane overnight on Sunday.

The woman was then forced to drive to her place of work and remove a five figure sum of cash from a safe at the Boots chemist store in the town.

She was ordered to deliver it to a man in the town's Ballycolman estate.

Acting police superintendent Nicky Thompson said it was a terrifying experience for the family.

"This was obviously a horrendous experience for the family involved last night.

"As you would expect, they are still upset and shocked by the whole ordeal," he said.

"It is early in our investigations, but we believe that republican paramilitaries were involved.

"At this stage, we are unsure as to which faction."
