Church fire treated as suspicious
A fire at a church in Craigavon, County Armagh, is being treated as suspicious by police.

The hall at St Saviour's Church of Ireland at Drumgore West Road was badly damaged in the blaze.

Fire officer Lloyd Crawford said the blaze was spreading rapidly when they arrived at the scene.

He said they managed to stop it from spreading into the main body of the church, where "it could easily have resulted in total destruction".


Man tied up and shot by masked gang

A 22-year-old man has been shot in a paramilitary-style attack in east Belfast.

He was walking along Coburg Street at about 2130 GMT on Thursday when he was approached by six masked men.

They tied him up and shot him in the hands and thighs.


Child teething mixture recalled

A teething mixture - sometimes sold under the name of Portavogie Teething Mixture - has been withdrawn from sale.

The medicine, which contains a sedative antihistamine, has been widely available in the Greater Belfast and Ards peninsula areas.

The manufacturers stress that it has been withdrawn as a precautionary measure, as it is no longer considered suitable for children under two.

The Department of Health said it received no reports of adverse effects.


Man arrested over 23,000 drugs find

A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with a drugs find in Belfast worth 23,000.

The seizure was made by police during the search of a house in the Falls Road area in the west of the city.

The man has been charged with producing and possessing drugs with intent to supply.

He is expected to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Friday.


Van driver attacked during stop

A van driver was assaulted on the outskirts of Downpatrick in County Down on Tuesday evening.

At about 2100 GMT the man had just stopped at a rest area on the Old Quoile Bridge to check his van when he was struck on the back of the head.

He fell forward and hit his head on the back bumper. He is not believed to be seriously injured.

The police have said they do not know why the man was attacked and have appealed for information.
