Two men have died in a road accident in a County Tyrone village.

A car crashed into a derelict stone building in Gortin at about 0830 GMT on Saturday.

Part of the former post office collapsed on the car in the accident on the main Gortin to Omagh road.

Another man - believed to be the driver - is in a critical condition.

He is being treated at Tyrone County Hospital in Omagh

It brings the death toll on Northern Ireland roads so far this year to 40.

John Moran of the Fire Service said officers had to use cutting gear.

"When we arrived, we found that a car had left the road and collided with an outbuilding, demolishing part of the gable wall on top of the car.

"There were three casualties in the car, two of which were fatal, and one seriously injured.

"The fire brigade used cutting gear to release the driver who was taken to hospital and then we used the gear to release the two fatal casualties," he said.
