Man appears over fatal crash

A 40-year-old County Monaghan man has been charged with causing the death of a County Antrim woman by dangerous driving.

The charge relates to a collision between a lorry which the man was driving and a car near Ballymoney on Friday night in which 36-year-old Mary McMullan died.

Mechanic Noel Dermott McKenna from Drumcoobrady in Tydavnet is further charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Mrs McMullan's husband Paul.

North Antrim Magistrates Court heard Mr McMullan, from Ballycastle, remains on a life-support machine.

Mr McKenna is also accused of having no insurance.

The court heard when charged with causing Mrs McMullan's death, the accused said: "God rest her soul... I am praying for him and his wife."

He has been freed on £5,000 bail and to further sureties of £5,000 each.

He is expected to appear in court again in April.
