There has been a Scottish double for the 21st Belfast Marathon.

Simon Pride took the honours with a time of two hours and 22 minutes.

Fellow Scot Trudi Thompson was the fastest women to complete the annual May Day run in two hours and 49 minutes.

There was record number of runners taking part in this year's event.

Over 9,000 people entered with many raising thousands of pounds for charity.

The numbers were up almost 3,000 on last year.

Belfast City Council said this years's event was be the biggest and most competitive yet.

Fun-run

Over £1m was raised over the last 21 years. This year's official charity is Childline.

The event caused some disruption to traffic. The starting line was, as usual, at Maysfield Leisure Centre with the route going through the Falls, Lisburn and Malone Roads.

The route followed onto the Ormeau, Ravenhill and Castreagh Roads through Belmont and onto the Newtownards Road before finishing back at Maysfield.

Those walking the route set off at 0900 BST, the fun run started at 1100 BST while the main marathon and team relay got under way at 1200 BST.
