House attacked with petrol bombs

Police in Londonderry are investigating attacks

A woman whose family home was attacked with petrol bombs in Londonderry has said she has no idea why she was targeted.

Two petrol bombs were thrown at Martha King's house at Lettershandoney, just outside the city, at about 0300 BST on Wednesday.

One hit the front door and the second caused extensive damage to her car which was parked outside.

Ms King said the vehicle was virtually destroyed and the front of her home was damaged.

She said her family were lucky to escape uninjured.

The police have appealed to any witnesses to contact them.

The police are also investigating another incident in which a petrol bomb was thrown at a house at Ederowen Park in the Galliagh area of the city on Tuesday evening.

It did not explode after it bounced off a fence.

Hoax alert at flats

Meanwhile a bomb alert at an apartment block in the mainly Protestant Waterside area of the city has been declared a hoax.

Army experts carried out one controlled explosion on a suspicious object found outside an apartment block at Rossdale.

Sixteen of the apartments flats and 18 houses nearby had been evacuated following the discovery of a suspect object at about 0900 BST.
