Man's body found in Dublin
A man's body has been discovered in a Dublin city centre laneway.

The deputy state pathologist was called to examine the body which appeared to have been lying in the alley near the junction of Grafton Street and Suffolk Street.

The Irish police said they did not yet know how long the body had been there before being discovered or whether or not foul play was involved.

A post mortem is being carried out.


Elderly warned about robberies

The police in Fermanagh are warning the public to be on the alert following three incidents in which elderly people had money stolen from their homes on Wednesday.

The incidents happened at Enniskillen, Lisnaskea and Roslea.

In each case a man showed the householder a bundle of money and asked if the money belonged to them.

He then conned his way into the house pretending to check that their money had not been stolen. He then stole whatever money he could find.

The thief was described as being about 45 years old with greying, fair hair and a beard, of medium to heavy build.


Man dies in factory accident

A 25-year-old man has died in an accident at a factory on Granville Industrial Estate in Dungannon in County Tyrone.

The man, from Castlecaulfield in the county, died as the result of an accident involving machinery at Westland Horticultural.

The incident happened at about 1230 BST on Wednesday.

The Health and Safety Executive are investigating the incident.


Man dies in house fire

A man has died in a house fire in the Shankill area of west Belfast.

The 58-year-old man was found in a bedroom of the house at Danube Street by his daughter.

The fire service said the fire started upstairs but the smoke alarm was fitted downstairs in the house.


Man robbed at knifepoint

A man has been robbed at knifepoint at a housing estate in Antrim town.

The incident happened at the Frankin Hill underpass close to the Parkhall estate at 0900 BST on Wednesday.

The man had been walking to the town centre when he was approached by two men, one with a knife.

They made off towards Parkhall estate after stealing money from the man.


Writer wins Doyle bursary

A writer from county Cork has won BBC Northern Ireland's inaugural Tony Doyle bursary award.

Bill Murphy won the £2,000 prize from a field of 140 entrants to the competition.

The presentation was made on Tuesday night by Tony Doyle's widow Sally.

She said the Ballykissangel actor would have been delighted that the bursary was helping to develop new writing talent.

Tony Doyle died suddenly in January 2000. He was aged in his 50s.
