Device explodes outside house
![]() House was cordoned off by police
An improvised device which exploded outside the home of a Catholic family in County Armagh has been described as 'crude but lethal' by the police.
It happened at about 0200 BST on Sunday on the Hamiltonsbawn Road near Armagh city. A woman and two children she was minding, aged four and 18 months, were in the house at Hamiltonsbawn Road at the time. They were not injured.
RUC Chief Inspector Derek Williamson said that the actions of those who carried out the attack could have resulted in death or serious injury. He has appealed for anyone with information to come forward. Meanwhile, local SDLP councillor Tom Canavan has condemned the attack. Speaking on Sunday, he said: "I abhor and despise people who are still doing this kind of thing to other people's lives." The area was closed off until a clearance operation and forensic examination were carried out by the security forces. Meanwhile, there has been a gun attack on a house in Lurgan, County Armagh. Up to eight shots were fired at the house in the Braemar Avenue area of the town shortly after 0600 BST on Sunday. No-one was injured in the attack.
