Westlife star Kian Egan went on stage in Dublin on Monday night only hours after receiving a beating at the hands of two men.

The incident is reported to have happened outside a fast food shop in Kian's home town of Sligo in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Two men allegedly attacked the millionaire popstar after he had enjoyed a night out with friends.

Kian was later treated in Sligo General Hospital for injuries to his face.

Irish police said the incident was being investigated.

Kian received a black eye and swollen nose in the attack but went on stage on Monday night at the Point Depot to the delight of Irish fans.

He is reported to have told the Daily Mirror: "I'm upset and annoyed and it has spoiled a very special night for me.

"I'm going on stage for the first time in front of my home crowd and it's all been ruined to be honest."

Westlife's sellout Irish gigs follow nine months on the road for the boy band.

Their cover version of the Billy Joel song Uptown Girl reached the top of the charts for Comic Relief.

The fund-raising single was toppled on Sunday by Hear'Say's debut track Pure and Simple.

Uptown Girl is the band's eighth number one.

It shifted 292,318 copies and knocked Shaggy's single off the top spot.

A spokesman for the band said: "Comic Relief is a brilliant organisation that raises millions of pounds to help people both at home and abroad.

"Every single penny that is raised goes directly to these projects. The band are proud to be a small part of such a worthwhile cause."
