In our project to build up a picture of a week in local news from billboards, a third selection of the best.

"MYSTERY OF 50-YR-OLD PARCEL"

This billboard is promoting a local newspaper classic. Mystery surrounds a 50-year-old parcel being dropped through the door of the White Rabbit pub in Maidstone, which used to be an officers' mess, addressed to a serviceman. The Royal Mail didn't deliver it, so who did?

"CHEF TESTED FOR SWINE FLU"

The latest news on swine flu in Brighton concerns a Mexican chef who had recently returned from his homeland to his job at the University of Sussex. He was sent home after developing flu-like symptoms.

Actor Gavin Mitchell talks of his traumatic childhood where in, short order, his stepfather died, his father died and his mother abandoned him.

"AMBULANCE ATTACKED BY SICK THUGS"

Taken by Keith Edkins in Chesterton, Cambridge on 30 April.

This relates to an incident in which two men are alleged to have verbally abused an ambulance crew before attacking the vehicle. They are also said to have assaulted a taxi driver and damaged a number of other vehicles.

"BOY RACERS IN ATM TIME TRIALS"

This extraordinary tale revealed that illegal street racers were using mini-statements from cash machines as proof during their races between South Queensferry and nearby Newton.

"LOCAL BANK'S SUCCESS"

Taken by Karen Swan outside Shaw's newsagent in Aberaeron on 28 April.

Although the billboard holder here is branded with the Western Mail, this is in fact a story from the Tivyside Advertiser. It's about the plucky CredCer, Ceredigion's own credit union, which is prospering despite the credit crunch.

"GLOBAL FLU THREAT RAISED"

Not really local newspapers, but an illustration of how swine flu is dominating newspaper bills in Scotland.
