Striking milk staff back to work
Strike picket line
The dairy strike began on Wednesday
Employees at Guernsey Dairy are back at work after a strike over pay and hours came to an end over the weekend.

Management and workers came to a settlement on Saturday after 100 staff at the St Andrew's plant stopped work.

They walked out on Wednesday in a row over plans to cut working on Sundays which would have meant pay reductions of up to £60 a week each.

Comments made by a Vale Deputy about the strike leading to an increase in sales have been branded insensitive.

Deputy Duncan Staples, who is also on the Dairies Management Board, said a strike should happen more often to boost sales.

States member Tom Le Pelley said such comments in difficult circumstances did not help matters.

He said: "I think we're all in danger of saying the wrong thing once in a while.

"It is regrettable that he used that particular phrase, and insinuated something that should really have not been put to the public."
