Man held in missing fitness instructor murder inquiry

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a missing fitness instructor from Wiltshire.

Donavan Van Lill, 29, a South African, vanished on 3 March and friends said his disappearance was out of character.

A 41-year-old man from Chippenham is being questioned by police, who spent Friday carrying out door-to-door inquiries in the town.

Mr Van Lill, who plays for Corsham Rugby Club, was last seen in the Pewsham area of Chippenham.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said the suspect was arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held in custody at Melksham police station.

"As a result of this arrest there will be continued police activity in the Chippenham area over the coming weekend," he added.

A major incident room is being run from Melksham police station with more than 40 officers dedicated to the investigation.

Police said Mr Van Lill had not used his bank account and was not believed to have had any clothing or toiletries with him.

Mr Van Lill is described as white and stocky with short dark hair.

He has a dragon tattoo on his abdomen and may be wearing a dark duffle coat and white trainers.

More than 16,000 people have joined a Facebook site appealing for information.
