New school proposed for estate

A temporary school could be built in Swindon to ease pressure on school places in the Old Town district.

The borough council has put forward plans for a school at Wichelstowe, serving the East Wichel area, to open by September 2011.

In the meantime the authority has proposed to open a temporary school for 60 children near the Croft Sports Centre from September 2010.

Gary Perkins from the council said the temporary school would "plug the gap".
