M4 drivers' 'turning' condemned

Wiltshire Police are studying CCTV footage after a number of drivers turned around on a motorway sliproad.

Emergency services were called to the M4's junction 15 (Swindon east) after a car hit the central reservation.

A spokesman said some of the drivers, queuing to join the motorway eastbound, became impatient and turned around.

"This nearly caused a fire engine to crash... the drivers showed complete disregard for the law and the safety of other motorists," he said.

"While they may have saved a few minutes on their journey, the action they took delayed the emergency services in reaching the scene and could have caused further casualties had they collided with the fire engine.

"We will be reviewing the CCTV footage of the scene from Saturday afternoon to consider whether action can be taken against these drivers," the force spokesman added.
