A television presenter has been given the go-ahead by planners to build 42 eco-homes in Swindon.

Kevin McCloud, who presents Grand Designs on Channel 4, wants to build the homes at the back of Northern Road.

The meeting of Swindon Borough Council also gave the green light to proposals from other organisations.

These include an Aldi supermarket on Drove Road and a 118-bed Hilton hotel between the bus and railway station on Aylesbury Street.

Speaking earlier, Mr McCloud said he would be at the meeting on "tenterhooks" to find out whether permission would be granted or not.
