Snap cards break ice at Big Lunch

People attending a party in Swindon designed to bring communities together will be given a snap card and asked to find and talk to their snap partner.

Everyone coming to the Lawns is being urged to bring food, games and books to add to the communal area for sharing.

The Big British Lunch is taking part in 7,000 places around England.

The Eden Project, which came up with the idea for the event, hopes it will prompt as many street parties as the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977.

The outdoor event which began at 1300 BST will be affected by the wet weather.

Jemma Cooper of BBC Weather said: "The general picture for the rest of the day is heavy shower activity with a weather warning meaning we could see up to 20mm of rain in just a few hours."
