A Salisbury man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after a 91-year-old woman died in hospital.

Paramedics were called on Wednesday to an address in Netherhampton Road, Harnham, where the woman was found to be seriously ill.

She was taken to Salisbury District Hospital for treatment but died on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The 68-year-old man was taken to Salisbury police station where he remains in custody.

The woman has not yet been formally identified.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later.

Det Supt Sarah Bodell, the senior investigating officer, said: "An investigation has begun into the circumstances surrounding this lady's death and a team of officers is currently carrying out inquiries in the Salisbury area."
