Special needs school pupils moved

Nyland Special School will remain open while the investigation continues

A number of children have been moved out of a special school in Swindon as an NSPCC investigation continues into three members of staff.

Head teacher Paul Sunners and three of his staff at Nyland School, Nythe, were originally suspended in November 2008.

A police inquiry into allegations they failed to use appropriate restraint methods was dropped along with charges against one of the staff.

Swindon Borough Council would not confirm how many pupils it had moved.

In a statement the council said: "We are temporarily placing some pupils in other local schools for the remaining part of the term while the investigation into allegations made against some staff at the school continues.

"Some pupils will remain at the school. We cannot comment any further on this due to the investigation."

The three members of staff remain suspended while the NSPCC inquiry, requested by Swindon Borough Council, continues.
