Further scope for town recycling

Some items would remain banned, the council has said

A borough council is to increase the range of items its residents can put out for recycling.

From Wednesday, Swindon Borough Council will accept ice cream tubs, yoghurt pots, margarine tubs, takeaway pots and several other forms of plastic.

Some items would remain on the banned list however, council spokesman Chris Banks said.

These would include black plastics, and plastic toys. The full list was on the council's website, she added.

Ms Banks said: "All the stuff which would have gone into your wheelie bin is now going to be taken out and recycled, so you should find more room in your refuse facility.

"Residents were quite frustrated that they weren't able to recycle their mixed plastics."
