Blaze halts chartered train trip

A train had be be evacuated at a railway station in Wiltshire after fire broke out in a locomotive.

Firefighters were called to Westbury station on Saturday night after reports of black smoke coming from an engine.

A Wiltshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said firefighters from three stations and a control vehicle were called to the station at 1920 BST.

"Crews tackled an electrical fire in the rear loco. All of the passengers were safely accounted for," she said.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used an extinguisher and one hose reel to put out the blaze."

The train, which was privately chartered, was travelling between Devon and Norwich when the incident happened.
