Teachers face redundancy threat

Teachers at a Swindon school could be laid off because of the downturn in the housing market, bosses have said.

An expected increase in pupil numbers by 300, at Ridgeway School in Wroughton, has not materialised leaving it facing a funding shortfall.

Suspension of building at the town's 4000-home Wichelstowe development, has meant no new families are moving into the area.

Head teacher Steven College said up to three jobs, out of 98, could go.

Mr College said: "We review predictions of pupil numbers all the time and we may have to make some staff redundant."
