The Environment Agency has enhanced its flood warning service
|
People in Wiltshire will now receive flood warnings which are more focused on their community following changes to flood warning areas.
The Environment Agency has created smaller flood warning areas and the warnings will only be issued to each area if they are likely to flood.
Those at risk of flooding will be given new "quickdial" numbers, specific to their area, by the Environment Agency.
Warnings can be received via e-mail, telephone, text message, fax or pager.
'More targeted service'
Kate Vincent, of the Environment Agency, said: "We have improved the way in which we issue flood warnings to provide a more targeted service to people living and working in these areas.
"People should also make themselves familiar with the levels of warning we use to understand the impacts of what it means when we issue one.
"Taking appropriate action in advance can prevent or minimise any potential damage or loss caused by a flood."
Areas which have changed include the River Cole, which has gone from one to four flood warning areas serving communities in Covingham, Lower Stratton, the Dorcan, Eldene and Coate areas and Buscot Wick.
The River Ray has gone from one to three flood warning areas which serves communities in the Even Swindon, West Kingshill and Westleaze areas.
The Environment Agency will be contacting those in the new flood warning areas who have already signed up to "Floodline Warnings Direct" to let them know of the changes.
The agency's 24-hour telephone service number is 0845 988 1188.
