Charges dropped over death fall

A Wiltshire man who was accused of his father's manslaughter has had the charge against him dropped.

Ambulance crews were called to a house in Oxford Road in Swindon on 22 August where they found 84-year-old Stanislaw Kociuba at the bottom of the stairs.

His 45-year-old son Francis Kociuba was then accused of causing his death before being granted bail.

But the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said it had now dropped the case "in the light of fresh evidence".

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "As a consequence of the continued liaison with the CPS, they indicated yesterday that proceedings against Francis Kociuba will be discontinued.

"Mr Kociuba's family have been informed of this decision."

Stacey Turner, of the CPS, said the decision followed new information provided by the police.
