New statue on cathedral blessed

Salisbury Cathedral has marked its 750th anniversary and 35-year link with the Church of Sudan by unveiling a newly-commissioned statue.

The Bishop of Sherborne the Rt Revd Tim Thornton blessed the statue of 20th Century Sudanese Martyr Canon Ezra.

It has been lifted into place using a crane where it joins the 67 other statues on the west front.

Music, dancers and drummers accompanied the pilgrims who witnessed the blessing as part of a day of celebrations.
