Flood-risk homes get protection

Bailing water from a flooded kitchen
Homes in the village have been flooded six times in two years

Home owners in Wiltshire who have seen their houses flooded six times in two years are to get better protection from flash flooding.

Thames Water said it will spend £8m to try to stop the village of Haydon Wick being inundated again.

About 60 homes will get direct protection and more will benefit from improvements to the drainage system.

New pumps and pipes will be installed and changes will be made to the layout and design of the sewer network.

Thames Water said the work would be completed within the next two years.
