Wine bar damaged in kitchen fire

Fire has badly damaged a wine bar in the Old Town area of Swindon.

Crews were called to MacKenzie's in Wood Street on Monday and found the blaze had broken through the roof above the kitchen.

The wine bar was evacuated as firefighters fought to prevent the blaze spreading to neighbouring old buildings.

The cause of the fire, which broke out in a deep fat fryer, is believed to have been accidental.

In total, seven fire engines, a high-reach vehicle and a command unit attended the incident.
