Talks over Gypsy sites continue

Consultations over proposed Gypsy sites in Wiltshire continue next week with a meeting in Wootton Bassett.

North Wiltshire District Council has identified two possible locations, on Marlborough Road and Stoneover Lane.

The authority cannot evict Gypsies from a site in Minety without providing alternative facilities.

People living and working in Wootton and Cricklade are being invited to give their views at the meeting in the Memorial Hall on Monday evening.

The council was considering two sites each in Chippenham, Calne and Wootton Bassett, but agreed to hold six weeks of consultations after residents and Gypsies clashed at a meeting in April.

Last weekend, about 200 protesters marched through the streets of Chippenham in opposition to proposals.
