A new £150,000 state-of-the-art playground is due to open in Lyneham this weekend.

North Wiltshire council said the Aeropark - named by children in a local school competition - aims to cater for all ages, from toddlers to teenagers.

It is hoped the play equipment, bike trail and outdoor fitness centre will encourage healthier lifestyles.

Funding was provided by the district and parish councils, the National Lottery and the RAF Central Fund.

Local councillor Allison Bucknell said: "This is going to be a state of the art play park, with something for all ages, designed by, with, and for the people of Lyneham, which will generate a high level of interest from surrounding areas

"We really hope that we do not suffer the wanton and mindless vandalism that often happens to play areas in other parts of the district.

"This can be a shining example of how the community can love and respect their local amenities."

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark its official opening on Saturday afternoon.
