Jewellery shop targeted in raid

A jewellery shop in Swindon has been burgled in a smash-and-grab raid.

Police were called to Deacons in Wood Street in the Old Town area in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The shop window was broken and jewellery was left on the street as the offenders left the scene, a Wiltshire Police spokeswoman said.

CCTV footage from the scene showed a male suspect wearing a balaclava and hooded top leaving the area on a BMX bike, the spokeswoman added.

The value of the goods taken is not yet known and detectives are examining the area for clues.

Witnesses to the incident, which happened at 0550 BST on 6 May, are asked to call police or Crimestoppers.
