A man who carried out a 'frenzied' attack at his parents' Wiltshire home has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.
Michael Pedder from Swindon was sent to a psychiatric unit after admitting the manslaughter of stepfather Brian Marsh, 69, at his home in May.
On Friday Mr Justice Field ordered the 47-year-old be detained as part of an interim hospital order.
Pedder will be brought back to court in Bristol for sentencing on 4 July.
Mr Marsh's body was found after police were called to his home in Whittington Road, Swindon.
Psychiatrist Dr Caroline Bradley had told the court that Pedder suffered 'complex' mental problems, including obsessive compulsive disorder.
She said he required 'specific hospital care', adding: "My worry for Mr Pedder is that his difficulties are so complex that he would struggle in most hospital environments."
