A canine event which had its UK debut in Gloucestershire five years ago will be shown at the prestigious Crufts dog show near Birmingham next month.

Canix is a mixture of dog-walking and cross-country running in which owners and dogs compete together.

Popular in Europe, it was first staged in the Forest Of Dean in 2003 and will be on the Crufts 2008 itinerary at the NEC on 7 March for the first time.

Some 200 dogs and owners took part in a race at Westonbirt Arboretum on Sunday.
