A Fijian soldier died of acute alcohol poisoning, a post-mortem examination has revealed.

Private Naivote Tuisavura, 24, was found at the barracks in Zouch Avenue, Tidworth, Wiltshire, on Monday.

A police spokesman said: "Although he had been subjected to a minor assault, at this stage it does not appear to be connected to his death."

Mr Tuisavura died after celebrating his nation's win in the Rugby World Cup, a source said.

He belonged to 3rd Battalion The Mercian Regiment and was found the day after Fiji's 29-16 Pool B win over the Canadians at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in the Rugby World Cup.

A source close to the investigation said: "I know they were watching a game of rugby and having a few drinks. Celebrations got out of hand."

The Ministry of Defence said Pte Tuisavura, whose family have been informed, was unmarried and had no children.

One soldier arrested in connection with the death has been released on bail.
