Ollie Bridewell
Mr Bridewell died after a crash
A rider has died at the British Superbike Championship event.

Ollie Bridewell, 21, from Wiltshire, suffered head and neck injuries in a crash at Mallory Park in Leicestershire.

He was taking part in free practice for the ninth round of the championship when he crashed.

The cause is not yet known, but it is believed Bridewell lost control at the Esses section of the circuit, and fell off.

A spokesman for by MCRCB events, the events management operation of the Motorcycle Circuit Racing Control Board, said: "Initial evidence shows that he lost control and fell from his machine making a heavy impact with the surface and then the protective barrier.

He added that Bridewell was an experienced rider and there were currently no indications as to what caused him to lose control of his bike.

The incident is being investigated.
