Work begins to put roof on lido
An open air swimming pool in Wiltshire is to have a long-awaited roof as part of a 1.2m refurbishment scheme.

Work has begun to turn Highworth lido into a year-round facility with a new springboard and diving platform.

The cash was raised by a local appeal, supported by grants from Sport England, the National Sports Foundation and local councils.

Chairman of the trustees Phil Baker said local people had asked for a roof on the pool since it opened in 1968.

"Not only will we finally get a roof, but Sport England has also supported the trustees in continuing to provide the only three metre diving facility within a 35 mile radius," he said.

The refurbishment work began on Monday and will last about 36 weeks.
