Protesters scale ancient monument
Protesters on top of the stones
The popular tourist attraction remains open
Three men dressed as cartoon characters from the Flintstones have scaled Stonehenge in Wiltshire.

The Protesters from the Fathers 4 Justice group then unveiled a banner. The World Heritage Site remains open.

The group said it was reacting to comments made recently by Tory leader David Cameron about absent fathers.

English Heritage said it was disappointed with the group and feels the demonstration not only disrespects the stones, but could also damage them.

Safety concerns

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said officers were called at 0910 GMT on Thursday after three men with a ladder had entered the site and climbed up the stones.

He added police were not trying to remove the men as a combination of rain and wind raised health and safety issues for officers and protesters alike.

Experts from English Heritage - which manages the stones - were standing-by to inspect any damage.

In his most recent speech, Mr Cameron called for more powers to "compel" fathers to look after their children in an effort to tackle gang culture.

He has also recently written that errant fathers should be made to feel as "socially unacceptable" as drink-drivers.
