Student campaigns for county flag
Westbury white horse
Mr Fear proposes a design based on Wiltshire's famous white horses
A campaign to create a special county flag for Wiltshire has been launched by a student from Corsham.

Chris Fear is proposing a design based on the famous white horse hill carvings scattered around the county.

The 21-year-old, who is studying philosophy and politics at Exeter University, has launched a website outlining his vision.

He wants to see the flag flying over pubs, at sports events and even printed on tins of locally-made biscuits.

"It came from an interest in flags, in local history and folklore and pride in being from the county," he said.

"Many other counties have their own flag, some official, but some not. Devon's (a white cross on a green background) isn't official, but is widely popular."

A spokesman for Wiltshire County Council said he could not comment on Mr Fear's campaign, but said the authority already had its own flag flying above its offices.
