Confidence 'boost' by CCTV scheme

An initial purchase of 50 cameras was agreed
CCTV cameras have been put into 300 vulnerable people's homes by Wiltshire Community Safety Partnership.

The scheme began after a visually- impaired elderly member of the partnership began having problems with youths outside his Amesbury house.

He installed a small CCTV camera and connected it through his TV set.

Pc Sian Alward said: "It has been a pleasure to see the confidence of camera users increase, and see them feel happy in their own homes.

A bid was made to the partnership for funding for some of the cameras and an initial purchase of 50 was agreed.

Members of the partnership then identified those in their neighbourhood that were considered vulnerable and would benefit from this system.

Dennis Edwards, of the Northern Area Community Safety Partnership, added: "When we started the scheme in a small way three years ago, little did we know at the time that such a simple idea would become so popular."
