Speed cameras withdrawal demand

Speed cameras are being used to enforce the speed limit on the M4
A motorists' pressure group, angered by the new M4 speed cameras, has demanded their imminent withdrawal.

M4 Protest, which plans a day of "slow-drive" protest on the motorway, says "safe driving is too complex to be measured in miles per hour".

Paul Smith of M4 Protest said: "£700 million of fines issued by speed cameras have not made the roads safer.

"We believe that the speed camera programme is dangerously flawed and causes more problems than it solves."

He added: "Officials are not looking at the big picture and prefer to rely on narrow and misleading statistics. While they do this road deaths are rising. Enough is enough."
