New mental health centre for town
A new mental health centre for older people at Swindon's Great Western Hospital has been given the go-ahead.

The state-of-the-art facility has been approved by the area's Strategic Health Authority and given planning permission by the town's borough council.

The new site will replace the current service at Victoria Hospital.

The service, which is planned to open in 2008, will provide help for people suffering from conditions such as depression, schizophrenia and dementia.

Malcolm Sinclair, Director of Mental Health Services, said: "This is an extremely important development for the future of mental health services.

"It will make a really positive difference to out service users, staff and carers."
