Chippenham first 'secure station'
Chippenham train station, Wilts, has been named as the first in the country to receive a new security award.

It was named as a Secure Station after 98% of passengers said they felt safe in the car parks and on the platforms.

The secure station initiative is backed by the Department of Transport and British Transport Police.

Manager Mark Prescott said: "Although crime on the railways is extremely low, we are continually looking for ways to make stations safer."

Chippenham has CCTV which covers both the platforms and car park.

The station also has an alarm system for both staff and passengers to use.
